Jack Stuppin: Songs of the Earth Boxed Notecards

The landscape paintings of Jack Stuppin (American, b. 1933) balance a respect for nature with an equal regard for creativity. Though often endowed with graceful curves beneath skies of blue, Stuppin’s compositions are no idyllic odes. Within them, nature is beautiful yet unusual: brilliant hues blaze across hillsides, waves and cliffs may mimic each other, and occasionally clouds seem to have minds of their own. Stuppin sometimes composes sketches in the field; from there he takes them to his studio, where large and dazzling paintings—such as the four images reproduced for this assortment of notecards—come to life.
